PR Playlist Additions

Music is powerful. It can uplift us when we’re sad, motivate us during our workout and simply make us feel good. People have playlists for just about every occasion: road trip, gym, homework and, of course, the weekend. But have you ever thought about what your work playlist would consist of? Well, I sure have! Here are 10 songs that I feel every public relations professional should add to their work week playlist.

Breathe” by Jonny Diaz

“Alarm clock screaming bare feet hit the floor, yeah, it’s off to the races everybody out the door. I’m feeling like I’m falling behind, it’s a crazy life. Ninety miles an hour going fast as I can, trying to push a little harder trying to get the upper hand. So much to do in so little time, it’s a crazy life. It’s ready, set, go, it’s another wild day. When the stress is on the rise in my heart I feel you say, “just breathe.”

As PR professionals our days are go, go, go. You may feel as if you’re falling behind — that there simply isn’t enough time in the day and you’re overwhelmed to the point of a breakdown. When your stress meter is rising, just breathe.

In too Deep” by Sum 41

“Cause I’m in too deep, and I’m trying to keep up above in my head, instead of going under cause I’m in too deep. “

You stare at your desk while the phone rings off the hook and you can see that your boss is heading your way. He gives you another assignment as you think about the three other things you have yet to complete and you begin to think you’re in way too deep. Don’t fret, you can handle more than you think you can. Take it one thing at a time!

Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars

“Today I don’t feel like doing anything. I just want to lay in my bed. Don’t feel like picking up my phone, so leave a message at the tone, cause today I swear I’m not doing anything.”

Ok, this one can’t just be me. We all have those days where we don’t feel like doing anything.

My Time” by Fabolous

“Go hard, today. Can’t worry about the past cause that was yesterday. I’m gonna put it on the line cause it’s my time.”

This is for the young PR pros. You walked across the stage and you got that degree, now it’s time for the real world. Going into that first interview, put it all on the line, it’s your time.

I made It” by Kevin Rudolf

“I used to dream about the life I’m living now, I know that there’s no doubt, I made it.”

You went through many years of school and countless sleepless nights to get where you are now. After you crushed your interview and played the waiting game, you receive the call from your dream job. You made it!

Humble and Kind” by Tim McGraw

“When you get where you’re going don’t forget turn back around, and help the next one in line. Always stay humble and kind.”

This one applies to everyone, not just PR pros. Always stay humble and kind and when somebody reaches out to you for something, don’t forget that you were in their shoes once.

It’s 5 o’clock Somewhere” by Alan Jackson

“My boss just pushed me over the limit. I’d like to call him something. I think I’ll just call it a day. Pour me something tall and strong, make it a hurricane before I go insane. It’s only half-past twelve, but I don’t care. It’s five o’clock somewhere.”

We’re all just watching the clock tick slow waiting on five o’clock.

The Climb” by Miley Cyrus

“There’s always going to be another mountain. I’m always going to want to make it move. Always going to be an uphill battle, sometimes I’m going to have to lose. It ain’t about how fast I get there, ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side. It’s the climb.”

There’s always going to be mountains in our life, especially in the workplace. Like I said earlier, take one thing at a time. It’s not about how fast you get there. Just enjoy the ride and conquer mountains!

“Bad Day” by Daniel Powter

“Because you had a bad day, you’re takin’ one down. You sing a sad song just to turn it around.”

It’s not all rainbows and gold once you get that dream job. You’re going to have bad days. Crank this one up and turn it around!

Cheers” by Rihanna

“Cheers to the freakin’ weekend.”

It’s Friday, you made it through that endless work week. Crank this one up on your drive home and get ready for a fun weekend!
