Working in the fashion industry is not an easy job. It requires long hours and hard work. This career choice is not for the fainthearted, but if you are someone who masters the art of representing a single brand or even multiple brands at once, you will be successful as a fashion publicist.

Former voice of DKNY PR Girl on Twitter Aliza Licht says working in fashion is always exciting because you have to find new ways to say the same thing season after season.

The industry is highly competitive by nature. Everyone wants to work in fashion because it’s fun and has a lot of benefits. Fashion Week is famous in the world of fashion, but even more famous in the world of fashion public relations. The hustle and bustle of Fashion Week is the most stressful time of year for fashion publicists.

Fashion Week gives brands the opportunity to introduce new products to the world. The pressure is on for publicists to make sure their brand is well-represented in each show. For many, their entire career is on the line this week, so bringing their best to the table is important not only for the brand or brands they promote, but for their own benefit as well.

How does one start a career in fashion public relations? It’s not the easiest career to get into but it can be the most gratifying.

Internships are the way to get your feet wet and start building that very essential network,” said Licht. She also said internships are the sole best way to launch a career in the fashion industry.

Fashion is like any other career in public relations, and networking is the key. Although internships within the industry are rare, landing one will help you get ahead on the next trend — and in your public relations career.

Rikki Willingham is a senior at the University of North Texas pursuing a bachelor’s degree in integrated studies.
